Bathinda: In a gruesome incident, an Airforce jawan killed his wife’s alleged paramour and to hide the evidence chopped his body into 16 pieces at his quarter in Bhishiana Airforce station in Bathinda district. The murdered person was also a jawan of Airforce and he was missing since February 8.
Police have recovered the 16 packets in which the body parts were packed along with a trunk and a fridge where these were stored. The accused and his wife have been arrested, while the weapon used in crime is yet to be recovered, claimed police.
According to information, Kumkum Shukla, wife of Airforce Corporal Vipin Kumar on February 8 night lodged a complaint at Balluana police post of Bathinda police that her husband did not return home after he left for a temple within the Airforce station premises. Acting upon her complaint, the police launched search operation but finding no success, on February 15 they lodged FIR under Section 365 of the IPC.
Sensing the gravity of the situation, as there was no record of Vipin moving out of the Airforce station, Bathinda police constituted a team of 85 cops including four SHOs under the supervision of DSP Kuldeep Singh Sohi. The team further accompanied by 40 jawans of Airforce and 20 civil labourers including sewermen and a dog squad launched the search operation and finally reached the quarter of the accused.
“The sniffer dog gave us the clue but the house that belonged to Sergeant Sulesh Kumar was locked. When we got it opened found the fridge was packed with polybags containing body parts. Some of the chopped limbs were lying packed in plastic envelops in the cupboard. To ensure that it doesn’t give the foul smell, phenyl was used in excessive quantity,” informed SP Gurmeet Singh.
Divulging details, the SP mentioned that the Sergeant, on being interrogated, admitted that he had killed Vipin Kumar on February 8 as he was upset about him having illicit relations with his wife. The matter was known to many in the Airforce station. Sulesh first took his wife Auradha Patel in confidence who reportedly claimed that Vipin had developed physical relations against her wish. On February 8, Vipin was called at her place where Sulesh was already present. Without letting him know the plan they became friendly with him and got him involved in packing the household as Sulesh had to shift his quarter.
“Once he was into the work, Sulesh hit Vipin in his head with an axe. Without waiting for his pulse to stop, he packed him in a huge trunk and took along to his new quarter on the next day. Then on February 19, in the presence of his wife and brother-in-law Shahi Bhushan, a Merchant Navy jawan, he cut the body into pieces and packed in polybags,” informed the SP.
About the role of Sergeant’s wife and brother-in-law, the SP claimed that they too had the knowledge of the incident. And going by the prima-facie evidence, the police arrested Anuradha but her brother as at large. Meanwhile, police officials claimed that would take the remand of the two to recover the mobile phones of the victim and accused along with the weapons used in the crime.
