Patiala: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Chief, Avtar Singh Makkar, on Thursday met Sikh Preacher Ranjit Singh Dhandrianwala at his headquarters in Gurdwara Parmeshwar Dwar situated on the Patiala-Sangrur road near Shikhpura village, about 15 km from here. The SGPC chief reached the headquarters at 11 am and remained with Dhadrianwala for 20 minutes. After a close-door meeting he left without any statement on its outcome.
Earlier, he also met religious leader Harnam Singh Dhumma at Damdami Taksal’s headquarters at Chowk Mehta. Makkar is trying to defuse the situation by getting both religious leaders reach an amicable settlement over the issue as SAD supremo Sukhbir Singh Badal had instructed him to meditate in the matter and get it defused as early as possible. Though immediate reaction from Dhandrianwala is not known but according to one of his close associates Kuldeep Singh, Makkar had condemned the attack on May 17 . He also gave information regarding the formation of a committee to resolve the ongoing matter between the two.
Kuldeep further said that Dhadrianwala did not welcome the proposal on committee in thie regard but told SGPC chief that he would meet this committee but in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib and talk as per the decision of the sangat. But the religious leader stuck to his earlier demand of a CBI probe into the matter. He added that Dhandrianwala had decided to announce its next course of action on June 4 when the sangat was organizing a samagam in the memory of late Bhupinder Singh Dhakki Kalanwale, who was killed in the attack on May 17.
When contacted, Dhandrianwala refused to relent over the issue, saying that the agitation would not be suspended for anything less than acceptance of the demand. On the question of getting any call from the SGPC in this connection, he quipped that they would not say anything till they receive anything on record. He said that it was up to the sangat to decide the matter and added that intellectuals would deliberate over the issue and than take a final decision in this regard. Meanwhile going by the party line the Congress Party’s CLP leader Charanjit Singh Channi on Thursday supported the demand for a CBI inquiry .
