Amritsar:President of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee(SGPC), Prof Kirpal Singh Badungar on Wednesday presented the annual budget of the committee for financial year 2017-18. Pegged at Rs 11,06 crore the budget has witnessed an increase of approximately Rs 88.10 crore.
The budget was presented by SGPC’s general secretary, Amarjit Singh Chawla, and it was accepted by SGPC leaders, members as well as score of others present on the occasion, amid chanting of ‘Jo bole so nihaal, sat sri akal’.
Earlier, granthi Rajdeep Singh performed ardaas and began the proceedings of budget function.The major chunk of budget of Rs 649 crore has been earmarked for management of gurdwaras of the SGPC attached under section 85, followed by a sum of rupee Rs 148 crore’s provision for general, trust and education fund.
For the educational institutions, like schools and colleges being managed by SGPC, a provision of approximately Rs 227 crore has been planned and for ‘dharam prachar committee, Rs 73 crore has been earmarked. For management of printing presses of the committee, a provision of Rs 8.5 crore has been made.
Badungar elaborated that this time priority had been accorded to deal with natural calamities and providing financial assistance to those affected from incurable diseases, like cancer.
“SGPC has deep concern for caring the cancer patients and that was why a provision of Rs nine crore has been made specially for this purpose”, he asserted.
