Sri Anandpur Sahib: University Grants Commission (UGC) released a new list of colleges selected for the status of ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ under which each college would be given a grant of Rs 2 crore. While talking to Daily Post, Principal of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College (SGTB College), Sri Anandpur Sahib, Dr Kashmir Singh said that the college has been selected for the status of ‘College with Potential for Excellence’. He informed that the UGC had conducted an interface meeting with a number of colleges from various states of India before finalising the list, but only a few ones could be selected for the status of ‘ College with Potential for excellence.’ He said that the status by the UGC is an acknowledgement of achievements of the college in academics, sports as well as extra-curricular activities.
Dr Kashmir Singh also stated that earlier SGTB Khalsa was accredited with ‘A’ Grade’ by the Banglore based National Assessment and Accreditation Council. The students and the staff members were jubilant over this achievement and they gave credit to the principal of the college for getting this status. Apart from SGTB Khalsa College Sri Anandpur Sahib, General Shiv Dev Singh Diwan Gurbachan Singh Khalsa College Patiala, DAV College Jalandhar, Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar, RR DAV College Batala and Shanti Devi Arya Mahila College Dinanagar have been conferred the status of ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ by the UGC.
