Bathinda: Giving statement against some influential Congressmen to check the village pond getting encroached upon in 2012 has cost me heavily, alleged the grandson of a freedom fighter from Madhir village in Gidderbaha sub division of Muktsar district.
Jagroop Singh, the victim who is now admitted in Civil hospital Muktsar, claimed that Kotbhai police naked him, shot a video and then gave third degree torture. Seeking justice, the victim further alleged that it was all done on the behest of local MLA Amarinder Raja Warring. Terming it a clear case of political vendetta, Jagroop Singh accused the SHO Krishan Kumar of also keeping him in wrongful confinement for 32 hours.“The SHO and his subordinates tortured me in an inhuman way and when getting freed from their custody I approached the senior police officials, they too didn’t respond to the incident and sent my application back to Gidderbaha police station to get examined,” alleged Jagsir. Showing injury marks on his body to media persons, the victim informed that sensing the district police not extending supportive hand, he had sought the protection cover from the court by tendering an application in the Punjab and Haryana High Court days before he was picked by the police “on Congress leader’s behest”.Family members of the victim standing beside him in the hospital further claimed that earlier their grandfather Giani Labh Singh suffered for speaking truth during the British rule and now they were paying the price for doing the same for the sake of state. According to information, while checking the accused from encroaching upon the village pond, Jagsir had given statement against six persons in the court which made them awarded with two years of imprisonment.“Now, they are taking revenge from us, terming us Akalis. The district administration is not even listening to us,” alleged the victim’s brother. On the other hand, speaking to media persons, Muktsar SSP Sushil Kumar said that the SHO had called the two parties to the police station regarding a dispute related to a cow. He further claimed that before taking Jagsir into custody, a medical examination of him was conducted. “Still, receiving the information about the controversy, I have marked the investigation to Gidderbaha DSP. If the SHO concerned is found guilty of behaving as alleged, he will not be spared,” said the SSP.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Amarinder Singh Raja Warring could not be contacted for his version.
