Jalandhar: Sikh protesters have lifted their dharna from Kapurthala Chowk Jalandhar after 36 hours on Sunday at 8 pm. Dharna witnessed heated arguments between protesters and police officers throughout the day but at last the issue was solved amicably. Jalandhar, Police Commissioner, Arpit Shukla, his counterpart from Ludhiana, Jatinder Singh Aulakh, and Jalandhar DC, KK Yadav, remained present throughout the day on Sunday for negotiations which ended peacefully.
Its pertinent to mention that sacred parts of Guru Granth Sahib were seen floating in canal water in Sher Singh Colony of Jalandhar on Saturday morning. Jalandhar CP, Arpit Shukla informed that Amritsar police has been informed about the publications in Amritsar where Guru Granth Sahib Bir was printed and publisher will be arrested in due course of time.”We have registered a FIR in Basti Bawakhel police station and will know soon that Bir was sent to whom, “said Arpit Shukla.
Jagjit Singh Gabha, President Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Gurudwara Committee told Daily Post correspondent that they are lifting dharna as CP Jalandhar has ensured the arrest within few hours.
Jalandhar Member Parliament Santokh Singh Chaudhary who also participated in dharna has condemned the act sacrilege strongly. He said that any sikh or a sane person will never resort to such an heinous act.
Meanwhile another issue cropped up at Gakhlan village where Baljit Singh ,a caretaker of a mazar placed Guru Granth Sahib in the mazar. Dastar Action Committee members reached there and police was called in the village. Baljit Singh apologised for his wrong deed and three copies of Shri Guru Granth Sahib were taken with respect by Dastar Action Committee.
