New Delhi: Manjinder Singh Sirsa, general secretary of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DGMC) and SAD (Badal) candidate from ward number 9 said on Saturday that he was contesting the DSGMC elections with a positive mind. He alleged that competitors, Sarna group representing Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi) were indulging in cheap politics. He said that the Sarna group had been supporting the younger brother of Sajjan Kumar during assembly elections, who was involved in the 1984 Sikh massacre. The Sarna faction had created confusion amongst the Sikh sangat by organising double anniversaries of the Sikh Gurus and had banned reading of the Dasam Granth.
He recalled that the Sarna group had disallowed many famous ‘Katha’ narrators from preaching and allowed the Congress men to share religious stages. Counting the good deeds delivered by the SAD (Badal) Sirsa said that during their tenure they implemented the Nanak Shahi calendar, improvement in Sikh educational institutions, celebrating of 300 years of the sacrifice given by Banda Singh Bahadur, celebrating 350th anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh and increasing the salaries of teachers of the Sikh educational institutions.
