Ludhiana: Though the police is still in the dark regarding the killings of a man and his son, who were staunch followers of Dera Sacha Sauda, a new twist in the case came on Monday after the Sikh Students Federation (SSF) took responsibility of committing the murder.
A letter on the letterhead of Sikh Student Federation dated March 6, under the signature of Jasmeet Singh, convener of the federation sent via e-mail to various media houses. In this letter, Sikh Student Federation took the responsibility of murders of Satpal Sharma and his son Ramesh Kumar, followers of Dera Sacha Sauda. Both father and son were killed by unidentified assailants at a canteen of Ahmadgarh branch of Dera on February 25.
The letter reads that followers of Gurmeet Ram Rahim, head of Dera Sacha Sauda, were executed by members of Sikh Student Federation at Jagera village in Ludhiana district. The convener of the federation writes that killing of Dera followers was revenge for killing and threatening to innocent Sikhs by Dera followers with the support of police and government in last few years.
The letter also reads that the Federation was also disturbed with the incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib and Shiromani Akali Dal seeking support from Dera Sacha Sauda in elections.
The federation also warned some leaders for using the name of Sikh Student Federation to gain publicity or to collect funds.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ludhiana Range S K Kalia said that he is not aware of any letter but the police investigation revealed that some group operating from a foreign country was behind the killing of father and son. The motive was to disturb law and order situation in Punjab.
It is pertinent to mention here that the police have formed Special Investigation team (SIT) to probe the case and trace the killers. The police have also announced Rs 50 lakh cash reward and job in police department for giving information of killers.
