Jalandhar: Amidst rumors that Jalandhar SSP Rural Harmohan Singh Sandhu has gone on ex-India leave, it has been learnt that officer has officially resigned from the service. Sandhu is likely to contest on SAD ticket from Chamkaur Sahib or Bassi Pathana seat.
SSP Harmohan Singh Sandhu is now serving his three-month notice period till December 31. In his absence, SSP Kapurthala Rajinder Singh has been given the additional charge of SSP Jalandhar Rural.
A senior police officer requesting anonymity said that SSP Harmohan Singh Sandhu has resigned after which he is on 90-day notice period. “It is understood that why SSP Sandhu was serving notice period”, the officer said.
However, it was also learnt that the police order mentioned that SSP Sandhu has gone on ex-India leave. SSP Sandhu was not available for comments.
Daily Post has mentioned in these columns that SSP Sandhu was likely to join SAD and contest from Chamkaur Sahib Assembly seat, which was earlier represented by his mother Satwant Kaur.
During the last assembly elections 2012, SSP Sandhu’s sister-in-law Jagmeet Kaur has contested from Chamkaur Sahib but lost it to congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi. Recently, Jagmeet Kaur was appointed as Right to Service Commissioner (RTS) by the SAD government.
It is pertinent to mention here that SSP Sandhu belongs to a traditional Akali family, as his mother became the youngest MLA in the SAD government at the age of 37. Though SSP Sandhu kept claiming that he would be glad to see his mother contesting again but with his resignation, it was official that the officer has landed in the political arena.
