Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna, also called Ayushman Bharat Yojna, launched by the Modi government countrywide, will soon be offered in Punjab but with extended name and sphere. As per the information received from the department, it wil be named Ayushman Bharat Sarbat Sehat Beema Yojna. It may be put into operation in the state within one or two months, an official said.
It is presumed that the Captain government will possibly start this scheme prior to the Lok Sabha elections-2019 in the state. It may be noted that the Congress government is on target of the Opposition for not implementing the Modi government’s scheme so far. While giving the grounds to extend the current scheme, it was said that if the state executes Ayushman Bharat as initiated by the Modi government, it will cover only 14.96 families in the state as this scheme covers families as per the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC), whereas the Captain government wants to bring the maximum population under the scheme.
The state government intends to cover around 43 lakh families which is 70 per cent population of the state. It will include not only the SECC but also the blue card holder families, ‘J’ form holder farmers, small traders, contract workers, poor families covered under the Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojna (BPSSBY), etc. Under this scheme, each family will obtain a health cover of Rs 5 lakh per year. Government official said the Punjab government is in the process of empanelling private hospitals also so that a large number of people get benefitted. The government is receiving applications from public and private hospitals in this regard, she added.
