Chandigarh: All major Punjab political parties claim that National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government’s decision on demonetization is going to benefit them in the ensuing Punjab Assembly Elections.
Going by Bharitya Janta Party’s (BJP’s) win with huge margin in municipal election in Gujarat and Maharashtra, the ruling Shiromain Akali Dal (SAD)-Bharitya Janta Party (BJP) alliance presumes that the demonetization will steer it to power for the third consecutive time.
The Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), however, apprehend that the demonetization will bring bad days “Bure Din’ for the BJP that had promised good days “Acche Din” for the public.
The Congress, AAP, BSP and other political parties have been criticizing the Modi government for the demonetization claiming that the decision had virtually disturbed the Indian economy apart from putting general public to a great hardship.
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Capt. Amarinder Singh, when asked on the impact of demonetization on Punjab Assembly poll, said that the decision would definitely benefit the Congress. “There is extreme bitterness and anger among the people against the BJP over this decision.I have personally seen the people standing in queues for hours together infront of the banks for taking their own money. The decision has been virtually proving a nightmare for the families who are and were to solemnize marriages and other ceremonies,” Capt. Amarinder added.
AS Karimpuri (BSP): No efforts were made for the convenience of public.
On the issue, Avtar Singh Karimpuri, President of Punjab unit of BSP, said that the Modi government has failed to come to the expectation of the common man as it failed to bring back the black money from foreign countries. “The decision will backfire the BJP as common and poor citizen has negated this due to the harassment being faced following his decision. The BJP people have already converted the black money into white. And even after enforcing the decision, no efforts are made for public convenience,” he alleged.
Gurpreet Singh ghuggi (AAP) : Public will teach SAD-BJP a lesson.
Gurpreet Singh Waraich, convenor of the Punjab unit of AAP, said that the demonetization will have no affect on the AAP. “The decision will affect the parties that spend huge money in elections. The AAP has no money, will spend no money and son no affect on elections,” claimed Waraich, adding that public was following wait and watch policy and would teach the SAD-BJP a lesson in the elections. Dr DS Cheema, spokesperson of the SAD, was not available for comments.
