Kapurthala: Newly constituted Special Task Force (STF) has got a massive success with the arrest of six dreaded gangsters and recovery of large quantity of arms and ammunition and 1.3 kilogram of Heroin from their position. The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh Gopi, Jatinder Singh Sonu, Sukhbir Singh Sukha, Durvinder Singh Ginda, Sayank Chopra Sunny and Harvinder Singh Binda. The police have recovered arms and ammunition including four pistols, one rifle and a country-made pistol apart from live rounds of bullets were recovered from their possession, besides this 1.3 kg of heroin was also recovered.
Assistant Inspector General (AIG) STF HPS Khak said that the police have located some notorious gangsters in the Phagwara, who cooking up some plans. He added that following the lead police enacted special barrier, where a Qualis Car was spotted. The police team attempt to halt the car for checking, but the accused instead of breaking opened the fire on police team with an attempt to flee from the spot. Khak said adding that after a fierce chase, the occupants of the car were overpowered and apprehended them.
During preliminary interrogation, it has come to light the gang was involved in several cases of crime in different cities across the state, Khak said that gangsters were giving a slip to the police dragnet by switching the city after committing crime. With the formation of STF, a team is being constituted to keep track of all the gangs operational in Punjab and that information is circulated among all district police, he added.. A case under various sections of Arms and NDPS has been registered against the accused in the concerned police station and efforts were on to identify and nab other conduits of the gang and bust their network in the entire state, AIG Khak added.
