Jalandhar: Following mass protests against ABVP for threatening Gurmehar Kaur with alleged rape threats, many student organizations, political parties and social thinkers held wide spread protests and sought action against the BJP’s student body.
In their protests, they targeted RSS, BJP and ABVP for terrorizing people, particularly the youth of the country in the name of nationalism and anti-nationalism war.
All India Sikh Student Federation led by Manjit Singh Bhoma and others said that they would not allow ABVP to indulge in ‘hooliganism’ in the country in the name of nationalism and stifling voices against freedom of expression.
Istri Jagriti Manch held a protest against ABVP at Company Bagh for threatening Gurmehar Kaur and termed them as a ‘fascist’ group. Press Secretary Jasvir Kaur said that under the current BJP regime, freedom of expression was being curbed and Gurmehar was the recent example of this case. “Istri Jagriti Manch supports Gurmehar Kaur”, she said.
BSP Punjab President Rashpal Raju also came out in the support of Gurmehar and said that physical abuse threats were highly condemnable. “By threatening Gurmehar, not only ABVP but BJP’s mindset was also exposed”, he said.
Punjab Student Union (PSU) members from Lyallpur Khalsa Colleg Jalandhar also held a protest against ABVP. “With Modi government at centre, ABVP was deliberately leading fake and forced nationalism war in all the colleges and universities of the country”, said Varjit Kaur.
The PSU members also said that ABVP was involved in unleasghing terror in Hyderabad University, JNU, DU, Panjab University, FTII Pune and other institutions in the country. All India Samta Sainik Dal President Jaswinder Wariana also slammed ABVP for hooliganism.
