Ludhiana: The agitation of students of Guru Nanak Girls College was shifted to next level as the students accompanied by leaders of various student wings locked the main gate of college during the protest on Monday.
The protest march was carried out by large number of students from college to Mini Secretariat. The protest was joined by Student Organisation of India (SOI), wing of Shiromani Akali Dal and Youth Akali Dal leaders.
The students also submitted memorandum to Deputy Commissioner and complaint was also lodged with Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh.
However, the students have agreed to end protest with little conditions but the suspension of 22 students by college authorities added fuel to fire and the protest was sharpened by the students.
Director Youth Development Board and SOI Zonal president Meetpal Singh Dugri said that the college principal and authorities were reluctant to address the grievances of students and forced the students to stage protest. Moreover, the college also suspended the names of students who were protesting but the students wing of Akali Dal will continue to fight for the rights of students.
Apart from the suspension of 22 students, the students were also ordered to vacate the hostels and the holidays were announced till March 14.
Moreover, hostlers were also forced to leave the premises as soon as possible otherwise they will not be provided with meal as college authorities have declared holidays for ten days in the college, said Meetpal Singh Dugri who was accompanied by Youth Akali Dal leader Gurdeep Singh Gosha and Sahib Chawla.
The letter submitted to DC and top cop reads that the students are forced to commit suicide as Principal was not issuing roll number citing the reason of shortage in attendance. The students said that they will continue the protest till their demands were not fulfilled.
Despite several attempts principal was not available for comments.

SOI supports students in protest
During the protest, the students targeted Independent MLA Simarjit Singh Bains for taking publicity through protest. The students said that MLA disappeared after giving assurance that college authorities have fulfilled their demands. The students also said that Bains and some other leaders have used the protest as platform to get publicity.

→ College principal was retired from the post but she was not removed by the college management.
→ Several teachers who were not capable and highly qualified were appointed as head of departments.
→ College authorities charging double fees for prospectus.
→ Principal didn’t issue roll number to several students forcing one of the students to commit suicide.
→ The hostel rooms were forcibly vacated from the students.
→ The students fighting for their rights were suspended by the college authorities.
