CHANDIGARH: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday appealed to the Akali rank and file as well as the Khalsa panth to recite ‘mool mantra’ and hold ‘ardaas’ on Wednesday to pray for the souls of those killed in the 1984 massacre of Sikhs as well as punishment for those who organised this genocide. In a statement here, the SAD president said Akal Takth Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh had already made an appeal in this regard and he endorsed the same. “I urge the Sikh sangat to pray for an end to jabar and ‘zulm’ even as they remember the horrendous manner in which the community was targeted in 1984 in Delhi and at some other places in the country.’ he said.The SAD president said simultaneously all Sikhs world over were still waiting for a closure to the events of 1984 during the course of which the Congress organised an executed a mass genocide which was unparalleled in the history of independent India. “The entire Sikh community is in a state of anguish and grief that the Congress leaders who indulged in these massacres are yet to be punished for the same. I appeal to them to pray for swift punishment to the perpetrators of this ghastly crime,” he added.
