After launching verbal attacks on the state police at Mallanwala, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal also announced extension of the party’s ongoing dharna at Harike Pattan in Ferozepur for indefinite period to protest against registration of false cases against its leaders and workers at the instance of the Congress government as well as the non cancellation of the election process at four places where Akali workers were not allowed to file their nomination papers.Accompanied by Bikram Singh Majithia and other party leaders, Sukhbir also participated in the agitation, blocking the Amritsar-Zira national highway. He served an ultimatum to the Congress government to withdrawal false cases registered against party workers after Congress ‘goons attacked and shot at Akali leaders including Vardev Singh Mann, Avtar Singh Zira and Joginder Jindu when they were proceeding to meet the Election Observer. While daring the state government and police to register case against him, with also throwing a challenge to arrest party leader Vardev Mann, Sukhbir said: “Weare Akalis not the Comrades or Topiwalas (AAP). We know how to deal with you all.” “In case the government doesn’t accept our demand for cancellation of case and countermanding the polls of four towns, the SAD would be forced to extend the scope of its agitation which was currently taking place only in Harike Patan,” he announced.
