Gurdaspur: While taking a dig at Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, senior Congress leader Sunil Jakhar on Wednesday stated that Dy CM may have been aware of central government’s demonetisation step well in advance.
Jakhar added that though he had no proof but he was sure that Dy CM Sukhbir Badal knew in advance that high currency denomination notes will be withdrawn from the midnight of November 8.
“I may not have any substantial proof or evidence. But people have now started questioning Sukhbir’s absence from Punjab in the days succeeding September 28 when the state government had ordered evacuation process.
“At that time even I had not given much attention to his absence. But now, after joining the dots, it is clear that he had prior knowledge of the move. I request him to come clean on it,” Jakhar quipped.
Jakhar further added that Sukhbir’s absence for five or six days raises doubts. “The state government had initiated a massive exercise in the name of evacuation. It was mandatory on part of CM and his Deputy to have remained in the state.
CM was in Chandigarh co-ordinating the exercise with his officers but where was Sukhbir, who is also the Home Minister? ” he questioned.
Jakhar also claimed that the Punjab government paid hefty amounts to some lawyers after the Supreme Court had finished hearing the SYL case and had reserved its judgement.
“A total of Rs 7.50 crore was spent on fighting the case in the apex court. A part of this amount was needlessly squandered on some advocates after the verdict had been reserved.
Why did the CM spend this money on lawyers when he knew fully well that once reserved the judgement could not have been altered?” he asked.
