Amritsar: On the occasion of 50th year of Punjabi Suba celebrations, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal announced that if voted to power again the state especially the rural areas would witness unparalleled development that would bring the state in league with advanced nations.
He also announced that the state government would soon set up network of 2500 shops for providing free medicines to people.
In his address, Sukhbir said that though every Punjabi was elated on this occasion but they were also peeved as the perpetrators of anti-Sikh carnage that took place on this day were still scot-free. He recalled the glorious role of Punjabis in national freedom struggle, making the country self sufficient in food grains and safeguarding the unity and sovereignty of the country.
He said that that though after independence several states were carved out on linguistic basis but Punjab was an exception due to discriminatory attitude of the-then Congress government.
The Deputy Chief Minister reminded the people about the barbaric attack on Harmandir Sahib and said that Congress party was inimical to interest of state. He said that while Congress has devastated the most revered holy place of Sikhs the SAD-BJP alliance has ensured the complete face-lift of such holy places. He also counted upon various developmental projects initiated or accomplished in the SAD-BJP regime.
Channi seeks Badal’s explanation why he launched agitation in 1982
Chandigarh: Questioning the rationale for celebration of 50th anniversary of second partition of Punjab that left the state poorer, the Congress Legislature Party leader Charanjit Singh Channi on Tuesday called upon the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to explain to the people as to why his party launched the Dharam Yudh Morcha in 1982 that pushed state in more than a decade-long period of turmoil in which about 30,000 people were killed.
He said in case the re-organisation of Punjab on November 1, 1966 is a cause for celebration going by the function organised at Amritsar, he should apologize to the people of Punjab.
“November 1 is a cause for celebration for Haryana and Himachal Pradesh but not for Punjab as it is this state that suffered. Punjab is now among the laggard states while both Haryana and Himachal Pradesh have marched much ahead. It is the Akali Dal that is squarely responsible for this plight of this state. Of course, it might be a personal gain for Badal who is completing his 5th term as the chief minister. This might not have been possible otherwise. Badal should list just one gain from second partition of Punjab,” he added

leading to Harmandir Sahib has added zing to this sacred place of all faiths. DP
Amritsar: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, while addressing the gathering on the occasion, said that terrorism in state was an outcome of wrong doings of the-then Congress government, which tormented the state beyond anyone’s imagination. He said that slur of 1984 Sikh carnage, frequent dismissal of democratically elected governments, menace of terrorism and several other misdeeds by the Congress spoke volumes of its dubious character. Hailing Badal, Jaitley further said that even during such times Badal stood like a rock as a custodian of state’s rights thereby thwarting the nefarious designs of Congress.
