Sultanpur Lodhi to get face lift ahead of Guru Nanak Jayanti: Bajwa. State Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa on Saturday said that ahead of the 550th Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev, the historic town of Sultanpur Lodhi would get complete face lift. The state government has recently constituted a 36-member committee under the leadership of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the preparation of Guru Nanak Dev’s 550th Parkash Purab to be held in 2019. Addressing the gathering during a sports tournament to mark the Parkash Utsav of Guru Nanak Dev, the minister said that the upcoming 550th Parkash Utsav would be celebrated on a grand level.“The holy city of Sultanpur Lodhi would get a complete face lift. A State level committee has already been constituted for mega celebrations. The committee would make elaborate arrangements for the convenience of pilgrims to this sacred place,” he said. The minister said that a strategy would be chalked out to ensure holistic development of this holy city, where devotees would converge from across the world. Replying to another query, Bajwa said that Punjab Control of Organised Crime Act (PCOCA) was important to crackdown on the menace of organised crime and gangsters in the state. “It was all the more important to instill fear of law into the gangsters and check their attempts at creating lawlessness and trouble in the state,” he said. Further, the minister said that in order to wipe out the curse of drugs, Punjab government would soon start a massive campaign to organise village-level sports tournaments across the State.The minister said that these tournaments would be held in consonance with the directions of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to make Punjab a drug-free state. He said that the tournaments would be held at village-level to promote sportsmanship among the youth. “The state government would ensure mandatory dope test to ensure free and fair competition in these tournaments, he said, exhorting the youth to come forward and support the state government in making Punjab a front-ranking state in the country.
