Sunil Jakhar who recently won the parliamentary poll from Gurdaspur constituency met Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi at New Delhi on Tuesday. He assured the Congress vice president that he would give his best to strengthen the party in the state. Congress candidate from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat Sunil Jakhar won the elections by 1,93,219 votes by beating its rival BJP candidate Swarn Salaria. Jakhar got 499752 votes. BJP candidate got 3,06,533 while AAP candidate Suresh Khajuria was polled only 23579 votes. The seat fell vacant in April following the passing away of veteran actor Vinod Khanna, a four-time MP from the seat.After congratulating Sunil Jakhar for his thumping victory, Gandhi discussed various issues about Punjab as the former is also president of Punjab Congress. Result of the Gurdaspur Elections were declared on Sunday in which Jakhar defeated BJP and AAP with huge margin. Jakhar’s victory comes as a strong rebuttal to the persistent Akali efforts and campaign of the past six months to undermine the work being done by Congress government in the state.
