Supplementary Nutrition food scheme in miserable
Chandigarh(Narinder Jagga) : How much the governments are serious for pregnant and lactating mothers and infants under the Supplementary nutrition food scheme; it can be seen in the Punjab. The state government had released diet for them like peanuts.14 grams milk had been given to infants, while pregnant and lactating mothers had been given 65 grams ‘Panjiri’ (mixture of fried wheat, sugar and milk) in a day diet schedule . After more than eight months, the released diet was in very less quantity, which could be used more than 12 days.Sources told that the Punjab Government could not able to added its matching share in the grant, released by the Centre Government. While as per the direction, issued by the Supreme Court, minimum 300 days in a year, feed delivery is must. The Centre Government has fixed Rs 160 crore under integrated Chile Development Scheme including state’s share with ratio 50:50.But after passing the eight month, the Punjab Government had released only Rs 33.24 crore for 27000 aaganwadi centres across the state for more than 13.50 lacs beneficiaries. In diet, rice, ghee, sugar, wheat, oil and other ingredients for nutritious food are delivered under the scheme. But the state government could able to release only ghee, milk powder and Panjiri. According to information, each Aaganwadi centre has been provided 5 kg milk powder, 1 kg ghee and average 25 kg Panjiri against the approximately 40 beneficiaries. Till June, 2017, an infant had been given ‘Dalia’ (semi solid mixture of wheat, sugar and mil) 124 gms.But in the July, the quantity had been reduced due to GST tax on such items. During the 10 month of financial year, till January 2018, infants have been given only 14 gm milk in a day. The government was released the supply of milk, ghee and Panjiri only, therefore only milk was distributed among the infants and Panjiri among the mothers, but Kheer and Dalia could not be provided them as the other material had not been supplied by the government. Director of Child and women welfare was not available to comment, while on other was ready to speak in this regard.
