Survey reveals 82 thousand bogus and ineligible pensioners in Punjab
Chandigarh(Narinder Jagga) – 2.75 lacs old age pensions are found bogus, deads, illegible or found absent in a verification drive undertaken by the Punjab Government till yesterday, 23 October. Young are also included in the pension beneficiaries. The exercise carried out across all districts of state. Though the pension amount is a paltry Rs. 500 per month, the government has been wasting over Rs.49.51 crore annually in paying the ineligible 82,533 beneficiaries, who were found actually ineligible and rest 1.93 lacs beneficiaries are still under verification. Five months ago CM Amrinder Singh had ordered to survey to oust to fake pensioners.According to official information, the total number of such beneficiaries is more than 19.89 lacs; of which 82533 have been found ineligible due to under-age, more income and more property. 65743 were no more in the world, now. 45,128 have no proper address and 82,462 were absent during verification. The age and identity of the beneficiaries registered with the department of social security were cross-checked with the voter lists as well as ration card were replaced with Aadhar cards as identification proof. It was found that 42,437 were under-age and illegible to receive the pension. 10199 had more income than eligibility for pension.The highest number of ineligible beneficiaries has been found in Sangrur, where out of 12,574 ineligibles, 7506 have wrong address and 7726 are no more. In Tarntaran district, out of ineligibles, highest 6300 beneficiaries were found under-age. The lowest number of ineligible was in Kapurthala, where only 87 beneficiaries were found wrong and out of these only 38 were under-age. In its orders to verify the actual pensioners, the Punjab Government had also decided to recover double the pension amount under the arrears of Land Revenue Act.
