Jalandhar: The residents of Surya Enclave Welfare Society staged a dharna outside Jalandhar Improvement Trust (JIT) against poor basic facilities in the posh locality.
Agitated residents led to by society president Om Dutt Sharma said that even as Surya Enclave was a government approved residential area, people were sans roads, street lights and stagnant water problem.
“Gas pipeline facility was also not started till date, even as huge installments were collected by JIT officials from the residents”, the residents said.
The residents said that the roads were lying in dilapidated condition so much so that scattered gravel was endangering lives everyday. “Almost all the roads were either badly broken or yet to be constructed. We have been raising voice against this issue for the past many years but to no avail,” the residents said.
They also maintained that no sign boards of the colonies were put up in Surya Enclave, leading to problem in identifying areas. “We have given our demands in writing to area MLA, JIT chairman and officials in this regard but no action was taken,” said Rajesh Kumar.
“Most of the street light boxes were lying open, inviting tragedies. At the same time, there was no facility of Class IV employees to clean the area and dustbins, as a result of which garbage dumps could be seen everywhere,” said Ramesh Chander. Even the parks were lying unattended, giving a filthy look. “The existing parks also bore a deserted look because of zero maintenance,” the residents said.
The residents highlighted that Surya Enclave was set up by JIT in an area of 170 acres of area in 2003-2004. “Surprisingly, ever since this colony was set up, none of the roads were reconstructed till date,” they added. DP
