Kapoori: Punjab Revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Wednesday gave practical shape to the bold decision of CM Parkash Singh Badal to return the land acquired for construction of the SYL canal back to the farmers by handing over fard (revenue record) recognising the property rights of farmers here.
Revenue minister said that what was taken by force from you is being returned back today free of cost. We have fulfilled our commitment to you but we want to do even more. He said Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal had directed him to inform all land owners that they will be given Rs 10,000 per acre by way of diesel expenses to level land which had been transferred to their possession.
Addressing the farmers, Majithia said the series of concrete decisions taken by Badal on SYL canal was a slap on the face of anti-Punjab forces led by Congress which was responsible for mooting the proposal to construct the canal and constructing the same.
“Indira Gandhi forced Congress chief ministers including Giani Zail Singh and Darbara Singh to implement her decision to construct the SYL. Then Patiala MP Amarinder Singh not only welcomed Indira Gandhi when she came to this village to start construction of the canal but also was at hand with silver
spade to assist her in striking a death knell to the farm economy of Punjab,” added Majithia.
He also stated that Congress and AAP have been exposed on SYL issue. He shared the affidavit filed by AAP on the SYL issue in favour of Haryana in Supreme Court with the people. “This affidavit is the reason why Arvind Kejriwal, who cannot resist from commenting about everything under the sun, has not opened his mouth on the SYL canal. He is keeping quiet because he knows he has betrayed Punjab and Punjabis”.
What was taken by force from you by Congress is being returned today free of cost.”
