Patiala: The Teachers of the Punjabi University on Thursday join hands and decided to launch a broad- based struggle to save the glory and dignity of the varsity through a joint front with the help of the students, research scholars and the employees.
A unanimous decision about the same was taken in a meeting of the Eight Convenors of the various teacher’s groups and Front’s and the meeting was organised at the varsity Campus. Those attended the meeting includes Dr. Kulvir Singh Dhillon, Dr Satnam Singh Sandhu (United Teachers Front), Dr Ram Singh Dhaliwal(Forward Teachers Front), Dr Gurmukh Singh, Dr. Gurpreet Singh Brar, Dr Surjit Singh, Dr Varinder kaushik and Dr Baldev Singh Cheema.
The Meeting in a voice vote urged the Punjab government to immediately release a special Financial Package for the University so that it will come out of the present Financial quagmire and also to make some proper permanent arrangements for its future safety on financial grounds as well.
Lashing against the state government the meeting also held responsible the state government’s wrong policies for the present plight of the university. They said that due to those policies now the university is facing worst ever financial crunch and even it really faces a threat to it’s existense as well.
The meeting also urged the state government to retore the cent per cent grant for the university in view of the present condition of it and the meeting also demanded that the besides the government will also clear all the arrears of the university by releasing the money from where the grant was curtailed.
Beside the meeting also demanded restoration of the autonomous status of the university and also the democratic set up in the university by conducting immediately the elections to the Teachers, Students and Employees Bodies as these were due since a long. The meeting also demanded that the undue interference from the state government’s babus be stopped at once.
