The SSA/RMSA Teachers’ Union Punjab on Sunday blocked traffic on the bus stand road and protested against the SAD-BJP government over the demand of bringing them under Education Department, delay in salaries and scraping of false cases on teachers at Bathinda and Ropar.Led by state president Ram Bhajan Chaudhary, the SSA/RMSA Teachers’ Union Punjab gathered at the local Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Hall and organised a state-level rally in Jalandhar.
The union leaders said that it has been eight years since the Punjab government appointed teachers under SSA/RMSA and Centre Sponsored Scheme Urdu at a mere salary of Rs 12,000. “Despite a policy of regularisation after three years of service, the teachers, headmasters and the lab attendants were not brought under the education department. Rather, they were forced to work under contract system”, they said.
Chaudhary said that even as a power committee held a meeting 15 months ago with the education minister which assured that the teachers would be regularised, no action was taken till date. Another union leader Gurpreet Parmar from Jalandhar said that Punjab government was making false promises with the SSA/RMSA teachers while the lab attendants had been waiting for their salaries for the last 17 months. “Rather the teachers were being falsely implicated in police cases, leading to their harassment. But such pressure tactics would never deter the teachers from raising voice against the Punjab government”, he said.
