Temporary licences for selling crackers cancelled
Jalandhar(DP Correspondent) – Following Punjab and Haryana High Court orders regarding burning of firecrackers, the district administration Saturday decided to constitute special squads for checking the sale and bursting of crackers as per the directions of court.A decision in this regard was taken during a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Praveen Kumar Sinha, who said that special squads would be constituted to ensure that the crackers were burnt only during the time stipulated by high court from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm on Diwali ie October 19. The DC said that in the wake of high court orders, all temporary licenses for selling the crackers would be deemed as canceled. “For fresh licenses, concerned persons could apply at the office of Commissioner of Police (for the area falling under the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police) and at room number 102 in District Administrative Complex ( for areas outside the jurisdiction of commissionerate police)”, he said.They said that the applications for the fresh license could be submitted at these two places by Monday, October 16 by 2 pm adding that these offices would remain working on Sunday also. They said that licenses would be issued through a draw at Red Cross Bhawan on Monday at 5pm. The officials said that people should adhere to court orders and help keep the environment clean and green. Awareness campaigns should be held for the public, they said.
