Jalandhar: The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police on Wednesday arrested three persons and recovered illegal weapons from their possession from the local Bhargo Camp locality of the city.
Acting on a tip-off, the police team led by CIA Staff in-charge Inspector Angrej Singh and party was present at the local Mata Rani chowk, when they learnt about the accused trio sitting in a local ground and hatching a conspiracy.
The accused have been identified as Harpeet Singh alias Lovely and Sanjay alias Ladi, both residents Avtar Nagar in Bhargo Camp. The third accused was identified as Gagan Verma, a resident of Basti Peer Daad locality in Leather Complex in Jalandhar.
Addressing a press conference, ACP Crime Jasbir Singh said that the trio was nabbed from Budha Mal ground in Bhargo Camp and country-made pistols was recovered from them. “During investigation, the accused confessed that they were supplying illegal weapons like country-made pistols from Uttar Pradesh to Punjab,” he said.
The ACP said that two other accomplices of the accused was still at large and search was on to nab them at the earliest. “The accused also disclosed that they used to buy weapons from Vicky,” he said.
Notably, Vicky, a resident of Uttar Pradesh was currently residing in Basti Peer Daad locality of Jalandhar. On the other hand, another accused Gogi also a resident of Bhargo Camp and Amrit from Avtar Nagar, was also still at large, the police maintained.
Meanwhile, the police recovered .32 bore country-made pistol with two live cartridges, a .315 bore pistol with two rounds of cartridges and another 32 bore pistol from their possession. A case under Sections 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act was registered against the accused by the police.
The police have brought the accused on police remand and further investigation was on to ascertain their involvement in supplying illegal weapons in the state.
