Chandigarh: Naming four new candidates, Shiromani Akali Dal on Sunday declared its 82 candidates against the total 94 seats of its share in the alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the coming assembly elections of 2017.
Barjinder Singh Makhan Brar, son of Agriculture minister Tota Singh, is now the party candidate from Moga constituency. It is pertinent to mention that Tota Singh has also been fielded from Dharamkot seat. Makhan is also the Chairman, Punjab Health System Corporation.
Earlier, the SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal had fielded Joginder Pal Jain in the by-elections of Moga, after he switched over his loyalties from Congress in 2013. Jain is reportedly not keeping good heath and he is also not on good terms with Tota Singh family. His son Akshit Jain is Mayor of the Moga Municipal Corporation.
Further, Manjit Singh Manna will contest from Sri Hargobindpur constituency, Dr Dalbir Singh Verka will be party candidate from Jandiala Guru seat whereas Malkiat Singh AR will contest election from Baba Bakala as SAD nominee, announced Sukhbir Singh Badal.
