Amritsar: A meeting of the Punjab Beopar Mandal was held here on Saturday. It was presided over by Pyare Lal Seth, president of mandal.
Addressing the traders converged on the occasion, Anil Kapoor, president of the local unit stated that goods and service tax(GST), being introduced by the government was very cumbersome and its was not in the reach of most of the traders. Hence, the traders’ community was not in favour of iys implementation. Kpoor, however, urged the government to implement GST only after winning the confidence of the traders and the provisions of imprisonment and fine should be abolished from it, if the government intended to implement it successfully.
Another leader of the local unit, Dinesh Ahuja, however, asserted that since most of the traders did not understand even the concept of GST, therefore, its implementation many lead to differences between traders and the government. He too made a fervent appeal to the government to give a second thought to the idea of implementing GST and put it off atleast until next financial year.
