Ludhiana: Traffic police officials at local level has started an initiative to curb the menace of rules disobeyed by schools buses or vans as they have impounded more than 150 schools buses in past three days under Safe School Vahan Scheme and have established some special checking points mainly for the school buses.
According to our sources, main reason behind these proceedings is increasing in number of complains made by the parents to the concerned authority. Another big reason is lackadaisical attitude followed by the school authorities in implementing these rules in practical manner.
Moreover, all these challans were generated under impoundable offence of motor vehicle act and sent to court for further proceeding. If driver or attendants fail to provide satisfied answer before Chief District Magistrate then chances of cancellation of driving license will be more.
Traffic police officials may also do mapping of some areas in the city so that every school authority strictly follows the rules and regulations as per the High Court and Supreme Court orders
While interacting with Additional Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police Dhruv Dahiya, he said, earlier, more than 150 school buses or vans have been impounded till now and we will carry this drive with the same pace until the flouting of the rules gets stopped by school buses or vans.
Most of the challans were sent to court for recovery. If school buses or vans continue to flout rules then school vehicles shall be bound and driving license will be cancelled.
He further stated that daily two or three awareness programmes have been organised in the school and university premises so that students and educational authorities comes across well about the traffic rules.
