No action against travel agents, women become Soft targets. Blame it on the nexus of travel agents or poor people seeking greener pastures, cases of women getting stuck in Saudi Arabia from NRI rich doaba belt of Punjab have come to the fore in the recent past. As per facts, more than 10 such cases have surfaced in the past two months alone. Though many women have managed to come back home with the timely involvement of the local leaders and Union Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj. However, many women from the districts of Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and Nawanshahr were still stuck in Saudi Arabia.Yet another incident, Paramjit Kaur, a resident of Gorsian village near Nurmahal was still stuck in Saudi Arabia. The woman went as domestic maid to Saudi Arabia in July. “Before Paramit Kaur could think of coming back to Punjab, she came to know that she was sold off to a Sheikh for 18,000 Riyal. Thankfully, she has been in touch with us and we were trying to bring her back”, said Naresh Kumar Gorsi her relative. “On Monday, we met SSP Jalandhar Rural Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and also approached Jalandhar MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh. We even met local MLA Gurpartap Singh Wadala but to no avail”, he shared.The family shared that a travel agent from the village Ramesh Bhatti had sent Paramjit Kaur to Saudi Arabia. “When we approached him, he blatantly asked us to pay him Rs 1.50 lakh, else she would not come back”, he added. Another woman from Nawanshahr has also sent her video, where she was seen crying and pleading for immediate assistance. The woman was seen stating, “Please bring me back home, else I will die here.” Earlier, another woman Reena from Boparai village in Goraya of Jalandhar was also stuck in Saudi Arabia. Reena got married a man in Tanda Urmer in Hoshiarpur district. The woman had sent a video to AAP MP Bhagwant Mann, who immediately informed Sushma Swaraj to take action. employer in Saudi Arabia kept her in captivity and refused to pay any salary. Reena came back home recently.Recently, a woman from Model House locality was also brought back home from Saudi Arabia by a Chandigarh based NGO Helping Hapless. Amanjot Kaur Ramoowalia, the president of the NGO had stated that the woman was so badly terrified that she even refused to share her details with the media. It was after Ramoowalia took up her case with the Union External Affairs Minister that she was able to come back home. The woman has shared that she was beaten up by the large family of Sheikh, where she was kept and not given any salary.Similarly, another woman Ikwinder Kaur wife of Ranvir Singh from Bhungarni village of Hoshiarpur was first dumped in Saudi Arabia. Ikwinder spent Rs 40,000 to go abroad and make both ends meet but ended up in chaos. Ikwinder Kaur was brought back by Damdami Taksal recently.
