DP Correspondent , Jalandhar , August 6:-Trees chopped off. The chopping off of some branches of trees in a local park named after ex BJP minister Manmohan Kalia on Sunday left Manorajan Kalia, his son and former minister agitated. Kalia has demanded an inquiry into the matter.Kalia said that some miscreants chopped off the branches of some trees in the ‘Manmohan Kalia Park’, which was made in the memory of his father. The ex MLA was also mulling to lodge an FIR in this case.“While the nation was celebrating ‘Van Mahotsav’, some miscreants Trees chopped off in the park. It is yet to be ascertain if the trees were chopped off on the orders of Municipal Corporation officials or on some leader’s behest”, he said.The former minister also said that it was mandatory to take prior permission from National Green tribunal (NGT) before felling of chopping of trees. “The Deputy Commissioner (DC) should take note of this issue. If we can’t plant more trees, atleast let us not cut the existing ones”, he added.Meanwhile, it being a Sunday, the ex MLA said that he was not able to approach the MC officials. “I would take up the matter with MC Commissioner and bring the guilty to task”, he said.On the other hand the Jalandhar Central MLA Rajinder Beri denied having directed anybody to chop off trees in the park.Notably the park situated in Central Park locality of the city is maintained by the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation. The park is well maintained and people from the nearby areas visit it daily.
