The Punjab Government and cable operators have come face to face regarding proposed Entertainment Tax. The Cable operators said that the government wants to eliminate the cable industry by putting the burden of tax. The multinational companies are behind this.The Punjab cable operators Welfare Association president Sanjeev Singh aka Sunny Gill said that one side the government is promising to provide employment to the people. About three million people are connected to the business of cable, which has about 6,000 operators and 30 thousand employees. Now, multinational companies (MNCs) have stepped up in this business. DTH is already introduced and Broadband is preparing to launches. These companies have already talked to the state government. For this reason, the government is bent upon unemployment for nearly 1.2 million people connected with the cable business through the entertainment tax in the state to benefit to these multinational companies.Gill said on this matter they will meet with Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal on Tuesday to know about those aspects which they do not know how much loss to cable operators will be facing by taxing. Cable operators told that all the MPs and MLAs will be handed over Memorandum to them and will give information regarding taxation of various departments being imposed on cable operators. Cable operators said, the business of cable is under unorganized sector. It has been set up by the people themselves. The government never helped anybody in this business. Cable operators are given a loan for this work. Now the government is trying to destroying it. The cable operators’ collection is already being reduced from 80 to 85 per cent. Now multinational companies have jumped into this business.Sidhu : Cable Mafia has stolen tax for 10 years, this tax is being imposed for the development of the stateSunny gill told that he had met the Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and had told him that entertainment tax would burden on consumers. This will eliminate the small traders of the cable and unemployment will increase, in such a way the government should not put this tactic, but it has no effect on them. Sidhu says that the cable mafia has stolen taxes instead of paying tax from last 10 years. Tax is being imposed for development. They did not come to political. The tax is implementing for the development of state. Steps are being taken while looking at all the aspects.After the GST is implemented on July 1, consumers will be charged 280 per connection, whereas earlier it was 270 rupees per connection. Now the 280 rupees will be included in which 42 rupees of GST is also included. Half of this (21rs.) is going to the state government. The government now wants to put aside the entertainment tax on these 280 rupees. The proposal of the government is to be impose an entertainment tax of Rs.50 per connection, it will also be charged 9 rupees GST ie rs 59 per connection more. After such an entertainment tax, per connection rate will be rs. 339. Sunny Gill said that after the increase in rates, how the people will afford cable connections although they will go to multinational companies ie DTH or Broadband.
