Nawanshahr, October 13 : – Two chemists-Verinder Pal Singh of Banga and Lakhvir Singh of Bakapur-in the district have been sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh each by the courts on September 19 and 27 respectively for defaulting on various counts during the checking of their shops. Giving this information here today during a meeting of the District Health Society, District Drug Inspector Tajinder Singh said in the third case, the court closed the case following the death of the defaulting accused, Rajinder Singh of Rahon.He said four more such cases were pending in the courts while licenses of 25 chemists in the district were suspended for violating norms of their licenses. Meanwhile, ADC (D) Davinder Singh urged those 30 years of age to get the facility of free examination in government hospitals in a year.He said while Swaraj-Mazda had already presented an ambulance to the civil hospital for the benefit of public, three more ambulances from discretionary grant of MP Ambika Soni and one from MPLAD fund of MP Prem Singh Chandumajra would reach the main government hospitals in the district soon. Civil Surgeon Dr Gurinder Kaur Chawla and Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr Dyal Saroop, District Family Welfare Officer Dr Sukhwinder Singh Heera gave details of various government –run health schemes in the district during the meeting.
