Hoshiarpur: Panic gripped Hoshiarpur Central Jail on Saturday, after two jail inmates allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves from an iron clincher. The duo used muffler to end their lives.
District Magistrate Anindita Mitra has ordered a judicial probe into the case. The deceased were identified as Surinder Pal alias Sonu, a resident of Khanaura village and Sunil from Hukumatpur. Both the inmates committed suicide together, it was learnt.
The incident came to light at around 5 pm, when a jail inmate saw their bodies hanging from the wall and informed the jail authorities. Both the deceased were rushed to the hospital, where they were declared brought dead by the doctors.
While Surinder alias Sonu was facing jail term in an NDPS Act case along with Rs 1 lakh fine, Sunil was behind bars in a case pertaining to performing unnatural sex. Sources maintained that Sonu was disturbed because his family was not able to arrange the Rs 1 lakh fine money.
On the other hand, Sunil who was declared a Proclaimed Offender (PO) has fled from the jail and was brought to the jail on February 8. Even Surinder was also caught in the NDPS Act case around six months ago.
