UK government must relax study visa norms: Virendra Sharma. DP Correspondent, Jalandhar, August 14: UK MP from Southall Virendra Sharma on Monday advocated the need to relax Study Visa norms for keeping the future generations of NRIs attached to their roots back home in Punjab. The Labour Party MP said that if the second and third generation NRIs in UK were to be kept attached with their roots, it was must that strict Study Visa rules were eased by the UK government.“If the current generation of Punjabis was stopped from going to UK, then the future generations of NRIs would end up losing connect with their brethren like West Indies nationals”, Sharma said. Addressing a press conference along with Union Minister of State and BJP Punjab chief Vijay Sampla, the UK MP said that ease in Study Visa would be a benefit to UK. “Not only students would get a chance to study, they would also get work permit, hence boosting UK’s economy”, he said.Sharma said that following current visa norms, there has been a sharp decline in number of students coming to UK. Earlier, the MP also said that an independent inquiry should be held in the UK government’s role in Operation Bluestar role. “The previous probe was mere eyewash, as all the documents were not made public”, he said.The MP also demanded the need to ‘significantly prune the Blacklist of Sikhs’. “It would be better, if the UK government could reconsider this issue”, he asserted.
