UK MP thanks Union Aviation Minister for assurance to start direct flight
JALANDHAR: Following UK MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi’s initiative, the much awaited Amritsar-Birmingham direct flight would see dawn of the day, as Union Aviation Minister has assured to begin it soon. A delegation of SAD leader Paramjit Singh Raipur and Union Minister of State cum BJP Punjab chief Vijay Sampla met Union Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju, who expressed assurance to start the Amritsar Delhi direct flight. During his maiden visit after becoming the first Sikh MP in UK, Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi had taken up the demand of starting direct flights between Amritsar and Delhi with the centre government. SAD leader Paramjit Singh Raipur, who is the paternal uncle of Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi said that efforts have started bearing fruits and the flights would be started soon. He said that Tanmanjeet took up this demand vociferously with the UK and the centre government. Notably, a large number of Punjabis were settle in the UK, which included second and third generation Punjabi diaspora. NRIs have been demanding direct flight to Birmingham for the past some time.
