Patiala: The ongoing agitation of employees of Punjabi University here entered into eighth day on Wednesday. Employees organised protest dharna in front of the office of Vice Chancellor, demanding immediate removal of re-employed staff–both teaching and non- teaching. Vice Chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh has decided to stay away from the university campus. Sources in the university told Daily Post here late on Wednesday evening that the VC had gone to Delhi on Friday and had not returned in view of the ongoing agitation of employees as he is trying to avoid them, struggling to get their salaries.
Sources revealed that as the university authorities have assured the state government especially Higher Education Secretary and Finance Department that it will remove all re-employed employees as instructed by the state government, it had called an emergency meeting of the Syndicate on February 15 but that meeting was also postponed keeping in view the non-availability of the VC, who had told the state government to call the Syndicate meeting to discuss the matter.DP
