Ludhiana: District Transport Department seems to be having a deep slumber as local dealers in the city are issuing non-commercial vehicles without provisional or permanent number to the customers. Major point of concern is that all these vehicles are running freely in the Mini Secretariat premises without any hesitation and fear of violations.
According to the guidelines of the state transport department if any agency holder across the state issues non-commercial vehicle to customers without provisional number then it will come under the violations of Road safety rules of the state government. License of the dealer will be cancelled if they are found guilty in any such case of violations.
Sources in the department revealed that 90 to 92 dealers are dealing with the non-commercials vehicles but officials at transport department have not made any team to check this growing menace. A traffic expert said that it’s a big threat to the commuters because if any such vehicle hits someone even in day light then it will be really a difficult task to find the culprit. During the survey by the Daily Post team it was found that two vehicles without number plate were moving freely in and around the Mini Secretariat premises which shows the lackluster attitude of the concerned department officials.
While interaction with Lovejeet Kaur Kalsi, District Transport Officer (DTO) she said, “On January 1, 2015 we have sent letters to all agencies holder across the district regarding the following of instructions of the road safety rules. Look out notice will be issued soon if any such culprits will come in the eyes of the transport department. Moreover we have given strict instructions to the traffic police officials regarding the implementation of such guidelines of state transport department.”
