Vigilance Bureau arrests patwari for accepting bribe

Ludhiana – The sleuths of Vigilance Department caught Patwari and his Private assistant red handed while accepting bribe on Wednesday. The accused were accepting RS 5000 bribe for making correction in land records. The Vigilance team informed that they have arrested Patwari Mohan Singh of Bhamian Kalana and his private assistant Lakhdeep Singh alias Lucky from their office at MIG Flat, Sector 32, Chandigarh Road. The Patwari was on the verge of his retirement and only four months were left for his retirement from government service. 

DSP Vigilance Bureau Kulwant Rai, said that Vajinder Kumar of Rajiv Gandhi colony lodged complaint against Patwari and accused him of demanding Ten thousand bribe for making correction in papers of his residential property. However the deal was finalised at Rs 7000 and Vajinder had already given Rs 2000 to the Patwari on January 22. The Vigilance team laid a trap and on Wednesday caught Patwari and his private assistant red handed while accepting five thousand bribe.

They have applied chemical on currency notes and also noted the number which proved that Patwari has accepted bribe, said DSPA team led by Inspector Rajinder Kumar recovered bribe amount from the pocket of Patwari. Moreover, when the hands of the Patwari were poured in the water, the water turned coloured, said officials. A case has been registered against the accused under section 7, 8 (Taking gratification, in order, by corrupt or illegal means, to influence public servant), 13.
