Patiala: Neha Sharma, a 25-year-old woman was ‘mistakenly’ killed by an unidentified policeman at Samana chowk ‘naka’ soon after Nabha jail-break incident on Sunday morning.
According to the police they suspected a car as it instead of halting, attempted to speed away. A policeman opened fire on the car and the bullet hit Neha. She was rushed to the hospital where she was declared as brought dead.
Little did anyone know about the truth the entertainment group was getting late for a marriage function in Haryana. Neha was part of the five member team of Armaan Entertainment musical group.
The family denies being under any sort of political pressure. The police are being helpful at every step says Neelam Sharma, the mother.
That morning, Neha was in a rush, her mother explains, “She didn’t even eat breakfast properly. But she told me to prepare ‘saag’ for dinner. She never returned.” The mother had told her daughter to wear boots as it was going to be cold by the evening. But she was in such a hurry that she wore slippers and left. She told her mother to be ready in the evening as she would take her out. Neha had even prepared a surprise birthday gift for the mother as it was her birthday the next day.
It has been over 72 hours now; the Sharma family is in utter disbelief at their residence in Gobind Bagh. Sarabjit Singh, who is the proprietor of the group, was driving the car that ill-fated morning. He said “We were looking forward to performing at the marriage function in Haryana as the wedding season had just started. For the entire group, coming three months were the peak time.”
The family also wants to clarify that Karan brother of the victim was not a drug addict. He did not study beyond 8th class.
The Sharma household was in pain. The family, friends and relatives sat on the floor remembering the 25-year-old’s enthusiastic nature towards life. After her father’s death early in life, she resolved to work and earn to support her mother and three brothers. She went on to take a loan to construct a house in which the family currently resides. Neha’s friends recall how brave she was!
Rajat, Neha’s cousin shares his memories about Neha. He says “She was a fearless girl. She didn’t pay attention to what the society had to say. She even refused to get married because she wanted to clear off all the loans so that her mother and her brothers could live happily.”
When asked, whether they had received any help from the government, the family said that no help had been promised. But it was the duty of the government to compensate the family as Neha was the only bread winner.” Though, the family had not heard from anyone about the help. They expected that the authorities will look into the incident and order a proper investigation to punish the man responsible for firing at the car.
