Ferozpur: Her efforts to make her husband get rid of his drug addiction proved futile as she herself started taking these in a bid to warn her husband. This happened in the area of Guruharsahai, where a couple had become so addicted that the relatives had no other option but to admit them in a drug de-addiction centre at the Civil Hospital here. But they fled, leaving their one-year-old baby behind. According to information, there was a shopkeeper in Guruharsahai who had been running a business of lotteries. He had been married for the past three years and had a baby girl.
The husband started taking drugs, which used to disturb his wife badly and she made efforts to get her husband leave the habit, but in vain. She got so frustrated that she warned her husband that if he did not leave drugs then she would also start taking these. This had no effect on her husband and she finally took heroin hidden in the house by her husband. Before she realised her folly she was addicted to the drug and started taking double dose. Their addiction forced them to first close down their shiop, then sell their ornaments and lastly the house. Their condition became such that they had no money to buy milk for their daughter. When the relatives came to know of this they admitted them to the de-addiction centre. But after few days both had a quarrel and both went away, leaving their daughter behind. According to the in-charge of the de-addiction centre Dr Archna Mittal said told that both were addicted to heroin, but during their stay at the hospital they were improving.
