Ludhiana: The much awaited project of indoor sports stadium on Pakhowal Road is likely to open soon as the second phase of work is expected to get completed by the end of September month. The officials claimed that work is moving at a fast pace and by the end of next month, it will be ready for the sports activity.According to the officials, though the project took so long for its completion but once it would be open for sports activities to take place in, people would like it very much.
In this stadium, along with indoor sports activities there is a provision of club house, library, separate dressing rooms for the players, practice grounds for the teams, 74 shops, lifts and double basement with a capacity of parking of nearly 250-300 cars. The MCL would auction all the 74 shops in the stadium, so that there should be commercial activity inside the stadium.
The stadium will be centrally air conditioned. Total cost of second phase is Rs.40.65 crores while in the first phase only civil work was done at the cost of Rs.25 crores. Notably, the construction of this stadium started way back in 2004.
MC COMMISSIONER SPEAKS
MCL Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori told that indoor stadium located at Pakhowal Road will cater to more than 20 indoor sports activities and the stadium has the capacity of seating over 4000 people at a time. He shared that long wait of residents is likely to get over as by next month they would open it for public.
Notably, it was in the MCL General House Meet that Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria and the then Municipal Commissioner GK Singh had announced that they are going to incorporate a club house for councillors inside the stadium. Whereas, earlier this club was to take place in the third phase but now it has been given space in the second phase only.
