Fatehgarh Sahib: SGPC run Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib on Friday distributed free blankets to the needy, in and around the city to mark Guru Nanak Dev Ji birth anniversary. Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia, who personally distributed blankets in the slums of Bassi-Pathana said that one of the foremost principle which Guru Nanak followed and practised was that of ‘Naam Japo, Kirat Karo and Vandh Chako’ and this exercise of helping the poor is nothing but just a way of giving back to the society in some way or the other and the university is constantly committed to the cause.
There is no bigger charity then helping a poor in the hour of his need. The VC said that people with the means and resources must help their weaker brethren and this Gurpurab we should commit ourselves to this cause. Dr Walia prayed to the almighty to bless the needy and poor on this Gurpurab.
Dean Academic Affairs Dr Kanwaljeet Singh, Registrar Dr Pritpal Singh, Dean research Dr Balbir Singh Bhatia and Dean Students welfare Dr BirBikram Singh was also present.
The VC said that the University has carried out cleanliness drives in various parts of the city for the past two days. He said that carrying out cleanliness drives helps in inculcating the divinity of labour in the students.
Dean Academics affairs and Director Sports of the University, Dr Kanwaljeet Singh said that the University has organised various function and activities over a period of two weeks and one of the major part of these celebrations is the upcoming All India Guru Nanak Dev Women hockey gold cup will be held from Nov16- 19, 2016.
