Chandigarh: With a majority of the young Congress candidates winning the Punjab Assembly polls it seems that the electorate has preferred the young blood that the old and seasoned politicians.
Angad Singh Saini of Congress defeated senior Akali leaders and Shiromani Akali Dal candidates Jarnail Singh Wahid with a margin of 3,323 votes at Nawanshahr seat. Davinder Singh Ghubaya the youngest candidate in the fray and son of senior Akali leader MP Sher Singh Ghubaya, defeated Punjab Health minister and BJP candidate Surjit Singh Jyani by a thing margin of 265 votes from Fazilka.
Kulbir Singh Zira another young Congress candidate defeated SAD candidate Hari Singh Zira in an interesting fight at Zira constituency.
A new face from Pathankot, Amit Vij defeated two-time MLA and former President of state BJP unit Ashwani Kumar by 1117 votes. Son of senior Congress leader Avtar Singh Henry from Jalandhar (North), Avtar Singh Sanghera won the seat after defeating BJP candidate K D Bhandari by a huge margin of 32,291 votes. In Dhuri, Dalbir Singh Goldy of Congress defeated Jasvir Singh Sekhon of AAP with 2,811 votes.
