In June 1984, during the attack on the Darbar Sahib and Akal Takht by the Indian Army, the martyrs were martyred and pictures of the devotees will be set up in the basement hall of the Shaheedi Memorial built near Akal Takht Sahib. A decision to this effect was taken by the Committee of the SGPC on June 14. A military attack was established in 2012 as a gurdwara near Akal Takhat Sahib. The basement hall of this building is empty since then, which will now be used as a martyr’s gallery.
The area of this hall is more than 500 square yards, in which this Shaheed gallery will be developed by dividing it into different sections. According to the information received, a section of the proposed gallery will include photographs of martyrs and pilgrims martyred during the military attack, and in the second part will be given information about the history and background of Indian military attack on Darbar Sahib. This information will be in different languages. In the third section, memories of those days will be preserved, including those affected by bullets’ marks. Giani Harnam Singh Dhumma, head of the Damdami Taksal, said that the responsibility of preparing the martyr’s gallery has been entrusted to the Damdami Taksaal. Prof. Badungar said that the SGPC would write a letter to the Indian Home Ministry and find out the official number of people killed in the June 1984 military attack.
