Ramkrishna Math and head of mission and spiritual guru of Prime Minister Narendra Modi Swami Atamsthanand Maharaj (99) died on Sunday evening after a prolonged illness. They were admitted to the Ramkrishna Mission Service Establishment, located in South Kolkata from February 2015, regarding age-related diseases.Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamta Banerjee has condoled the demise of Swami Atamsthanand Maharaj. His condition had worsened from Saturday morning and he was kept on ventilator. His dialysis was going on. Seeing the news of his poor condition, the chief minister reached the hospital to see him.Medical Board was formed for their treatment, in which 16 doctors were involved. According to hospital sources, he breathed his last around 5.30 pm on Sunday evening. In his condolence message on Twitter, Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee said: “The death of Swami Atamsthanand Maharaj is irreparable damage to humanity. He dedicated all his life to social and religious work.Significantly, Swami Atamsthanand Maharaj was associated with the Ramkrishna Mission at Bellurmath, at the age of 22. In May 2015, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to Kolkata, he went to the hospital to meet Atamsthanand Maharaj.Narendra Modi had come to Belurmath to become an ascetic in adolescence, but Swami Atamsthanand Maharaj had dismissed his request saying that he needs somewhere else. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the demise of Swami Atamsthanand Maharaj. . He described the demise of Swami as his personal loss. Modi wrote on Twitter that I had been with him during his important moment of his life.
