Sitting MP Ravneet Singh Bittu is again set to contest elections on Congress ticket

Ludhiana: With just two months left for Lok Sabha elections, the aspirants for Lok Sabha elections have pulled up their socks. From Ludhiana parliamentary constituency, sitting MP Ravneet Singh Bittu is again set to contest elections on Congress tickets. However the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has not announced its candidate but three names were shortlisted by party high command.
Former Advisor to Chief Minister and senior Akali Dal Maheshinder Singh Grewal is on the top of list of contenders for Akali Dal election ticket. Apart from Grewal, Akali Dal may play bet on former Chief parliamentary Secretary (CPS) Harish Rai Dhanda. Dhanda had rejoined Akali Dal last month.
Sources close to Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal also reveal that party may spring surprise by announcing Bollywood actor Sonu Sood from Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency. Sonu Sood belonged to Moga district of Punjab. In Vidhan Sabha elections, his name was discussed as Shiromani Akali Dal candidate but decision was not taken. Now, Akali Dal is planning to field Sonu Sood as candidate from Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency.
In 2014, Manpreet Singh Ayali was SAD candidate from Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency but lost. Ayali was former MLA from dacha constituency and lost Assembly elections in 2017 also. As AAP MLA HS Phoolka has submitted his resignation, by elections in Dakha constituency is expected anytime and Manpreet Ayali will be Akali Dal face in by poll.
From last few months, senior Akali Dal leader Maheshinder Singh Grewal was active in Lok Sabha constituency and expected to contest elections. Sources also told that party is also looking for Hindu candidate as Ludhiana is Hindu voters dominated area. Harish Rai Dhanda who had quit Akali Dal has rejoined the party and party may announce his name as candidate.
Another name of MLA Sharanjit Singh Dhillon is also in the list of contenders but party is not in a mood to take risk by fielding MLAs in Lok Sabha polls, said a senior party leader.
