Samsung loses top spot : According to Counterpoint’s latest report, Samsung is not doing too well.Samsung has lost its top spot in the premium segment to Apple in the July-September period. Not only this, for the first time, Samsung has dropped to number 3 behind OnePlus in a segment that is seeing competition like never before. The report points out that performance from Chinese smartphone brands have remained strong and have contributed to more than half of the total smartphone shipments. “Xiaomi, iTel, Oppo, Vivo and OnePlus were the fastest growing smartphone brands during the quarter.”
“OnePlus came out with a special buyback offer for the existing OnePlus users during OnePlus 5 launch and offered cash backs on device exchange. So large number of previous generation OnePlus users upgraded to new phone.” said Parv Sharma, research associate at Counterpoint.The fight for the top spot will even get more tough further in November with players like Google, Xiaomi and Nokia in the market. Also according to sources, Xiaomi and Google can make a dent in the segment, as both have devices priced at lower than competition, Apple will want to keep its lead in the present quarter with iPhone X, which has seen strong demand.
